Living the dream

Prairie Fire Cattle Company was officially founded in 2024, but the dream of Rex and Becky Pester of Colton, SD began way before then.

The journey started in 2020 when we bought our farm, envisioning it as the perfect home for Highlands someday. After years of restoring the farm buildings, learning from seasoned cattle farmers, and preparing for this adventure, we were finally ready to bring our dream to life.

What began as a modest plan to own six Highlands quickly grew — thanks to a little "cow math" — to a thriving herd of 15! The summer of 2024 was all about bonding with our herd, and we’re thrilled to welcome our first calves in the spring and summer of 2025.

At Prairie Fire, it’s not just about raising cattle; it’s about creating a legacy and building a life we love.
